Summer Seasonal/Internship Position
JOB TITLE: RECREATION INTERN
PAY RANGE: $8.25-10.00 PER HOUR OR STIPEND
PERIOD: LATE MAY TO EARLY SEPTEMBER

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
East Hartford Parks & Recreation is a municipal agency with five (5) full-time administrative staff, fifteen (15) full-time maintenance staff and additional part-time staff, serving a population of 50,000.~ The department's responsibilities encompass recreational programming for all ages, as well as the management of all parks.~ East Hartford is located east of the Connecticut River near the center of the state.~ For additional information, visit the department's web site at:~ www.ci.east-hartford.ct.us.
JOB SUMMARY
Excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate that is interested in gaining hands-on experience in the Parks and Recreation field working with a very active community Parks and Recreation Department.~ Position will involve all aspects of the department including special events, recreation programming, park maintenance, park management, customer service and promotion.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists Parks and Recreation staff with the following departmental projects:
- Preparation, promotion and supervision of summer events including the Podunk Bluegrass Music Festival – First Full Weekend in August, Park Discovery Day - June, Sounds of Summer Concert Series - Thursday evenings throughout the summer, Riverfest – 4th of July event – Saturday, July 11th
- Preparation of the Fall Fest
- Preparation for Haunted Mansion
- Data Input and Reporting with recreation software (RecTrac by Vermont Systems)
- Daily duties of Park Maintenance which are labor intensive and would include such duties as ball field maintenance, cleaning parks, using equipment and other work as it relates to Park Maintenance.
WORK SCHEDULE
Mon.-Wed., 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Thursday 8:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. and Fri., 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (flexible) with some nights and weekends.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicant must be a minimum of 18 years of age with a valid Drivers License. Prefer college graduate or college student majoring in Recreation/Leisure Services- must have career goal in field of Recreation. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills needed.
