Deputy Chief John Murphy selected as Police Chief for the Town of Canton
Deputy Chief Murphy announced his retirement from the East Hartford Police Departmentto pursue an appointment as Chief of Police for the Canton Police Department. John will retire December 4, 2009, after over 25 years of service with the Town.
Deputy Chief Murphy has held several positions within the department including command of Management Service where he oversaw day to day operations dealing with personnel, training and technology. John has extensive management and budgeting experience and currently is in command of the Criminal Investigations Bureau. John has been actively involved in several initiatives involving youth, regional technology programs and the department’s “Hot Spot” unit which is a pro-active unit that concentrates on specific criminal activities in the community.
“Deputy Chief Murphy has been a tremendous asset to this organization and I thank him for his many years of dedicated service to the citizens of East Hartford and the Police Department. I wish him all the best in the future in his new role as Chief of Police with the Canton Police Department,” said Police Chief Mark J. Sirois.
