DEPARTMENTAL MEDAL OF VALOR
The Departmental Medal of Valor shall be the highest award that may be bestowed upon any member of the Department. It shall be awarded only in exceptional instances involving extremely hazardous conditions in which a member has actually risked his life in the performance of duty. The act or acts performed shall be of an extraordinary nature, beyond the call of duty, which exposed the member's life to extreme danger, or resulted in the member's death.
The medal shall consist of a gold medallion suspended from a red, white, and blue ribbon. The citation bar shall consist of a blue service bar with gold stars, edged in gold.
DEPARTMENTAL CITATION FOR BRAVERY
The Department Citation for Bravery shall be presented to a member of the Department who has performed an act of bravery, which has been beyond the call of duty. It shall recognize those incidents wherein the member's physical safety has been perilously exposed to danger, in order to save the life of another, or to perform an extraordinary and heroic action.
The citation bar shall consist of a blue and red service bar edged in silver with a centered silver star.
DEPARTMENTAL DISTNGUISHED SERVICE CITATION
The Departmental Distinguished Service Citation shall be presented to a member of the Department who has rendered a service beyond the ordinary call for duty. It shall recognize those incidents wherein the member's diligence, perseverance, and timely judgement in the performance of a difficult task have resulted in the protection of life or property, or the prevention of a major crime.
The citation bar shall consist of a red and yellow service bar edged in silver.
DEPARTMENTAL LIFE SAVING CITATION
The Departmental Lifesaving Citation shall be presented to a member of the Department whose personal actions are credited with saving the life of another person.
The citation bar shall consist of a yellow and white service bar edged in silver.
DEPARTMENTAL MERITORIOUS SERVICE CITATION
The Departmental Meritorious Service Citation shall be presented to a member of the Department when the actions or service deserves special acknowledgement in the form of a citation.
The citation bar shall consist of a white service bar edged in silver.
DEPARTMENTAL MILITARY VETERAN CITATION
The Military Veteran Citation will be awarded to any member of the Department who is a current member of any branch of the Armed Services of the United States of America, or, who served and was honorably discharged from any branch of the Armed Services of the United States.
The citation bar shall consist of a green service bar edged in gold.
DEPARTMENTAL POLICE SERVICE CITATION
The Police Service Citation shall be awarded to any member of the Department who is serving the Town of East Hartford and has met the following minimum requirements: 1. Graduation from a POSTC recognized Police Academy Program; 2. Successful completion of the East Hartford Police Field Training Officer Program. 3. Completion of a minimum two years of service with the East Hartford Police Department.
The citation bar shall consist of a United States Flag design service bar with gold trim.
LETTER OF COMMENDATION
When actions of a member of the Department are significant enough in nature to deserve recognition.
