CRT Offers Walk-In Energy Assistance Application Day
Applications taken for new and returning customers in East Hartford

HARTFORD-The Community Renewal Team, Inc., Connecticut's largest Community Action Agency, will offer low and middle income residents an opportunity to complete energy assistance applications without an appointment in East Hartford from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday, March 22, 2010 at the East Hartford Community Cultural Center, 50 Chapman Place.

Staff will process Energy Assistance applications on the spot, as long as customers bring the proper documents:

* Social Security number and date of birth for all household members
* Current rent statement (if heat is included)
* For electric or natural gas: Current utility bill in name of a household member over 18
* For oil, kerosene, wood or propane: Name of fuel company
* Proof of current income (pay stubs, bank statements) for all adults for the 4 weeks prior to application date
* Documentation for Social Security, pension, and other monthly benefits, such as bank statements
* Statements for all checking, savings, credit union accounts, stocks, bonds and CD's

Last year, CRT gave out more than $28 million in energy assistance payments to 33,000 Connecticut households. Households may qualify based on a number of income guidelines, including those recently laid off. A two-person household may qualify with yearly income up to $39,865, while a household of four can make up to $58,625.

For more information about eligibility guidelines or to make an appointment for another time, customers should call (860) 560-5800.
